ORBEC FUNDRAISER SUCCESS

THE FIRST ANNUAL LAKE COUNTRY BLUEGRASS JAMBOREE WAS HELD ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 21, 2017 WITH GREAT ENTERTAINMENT, GREAT FOOD AND GREAT FELLOWSHIP.

THE BLUEGRASS BAND, MONROE CROSSING,  WAS THE HEADLINING ENTERTAINMENT.  THEY CALL THEIR CURRENT TOUR “THE ANYWHERE BUT MINNESOTA IN THE WINTERTIME TOUR”, BECAUSE THAT’S WHERE THEY CALL HOME WHEN THEY AREN’T ON TOUR.  THE MEMBERS OF THE BAND AND THEIR INSTRUMENTS INCLUDE DEREK JOHNSON…GUITAR AND LEAD VOCALS, LISA FUGLIE…FIDDLE, MANDOLIN, GUITAR AND LEAD VOCALS, MATT THOMPSON…MANDOLIN, FIDDLE AND HARMONY VOCALS, MARK ANDERSON…BASS AND BASS VOCALS AND DAVID ROBINSON…BANJO, DOBRO, HARMONICA AND HARMONY VOCALS.  THEY SAY BECAUSE THEY MET THROUGH BILL MONROE’S MUSIC, THEY HAD A “MONROE CROSSING.”  THEY ARE ALL TALENTED, FRIENDLY, HELPFUL, KIND AND GENEROUS PEOPLE, WHO FIT RIGHT IN WITH OUR EMMAUS COMMUNITY.  THEY WERE ALSO VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM IN GREENSBORO, GA.  THEY PERFORMED FOR 2 HOURS WITH A SHORT BREAK IN THE MIDDLE AND TOOK REQUESTS FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE SHOW.

THERE WERE THREE OTHER PERFORMANCES BY EQUALLY “GOOD” FOLKS IN THE AFTERNOON.  LOCAL BAND, PULLIN’ STRINGS, AND LOCAL, JOHNNY ROQUEMORE, OFFERED BLUEGRASS AND COUNTRY MUSIC.  OUR OWN ORBEC MUSIC TEAMS PERFORMED GOSPEL AND PRAISE MUSIC WITH GREAT ENTHUSIASM, ALSO.

THE “MEAL INCLUDED TICKET HOLDERS” WERE TREATED TO FRESH ROASTED OYSTERS AND THE PULLED PORK OF A HOG, SMOKED BY GEORGIA BUTTS OF EATONTON BETWEEN 4:00 AND 6:00.  THE HOPEWELL HOPEFULS REUNION GROUP BAKED CAKES AND BROWNIES FOR THE DESSERT OF THE MEAL.  BY ALL ACCOUNTS THE FOOD WAS GOOD, AND THE FELLOWSHIP IN THE FOOD TENT WAS SPECIAL.

ALICIA WHITEHOUSE MANNED THE CAKE SILENT AUCTION TABLE FULL OF LUCIOUS OFFERINGS BY ORBEC MEMBERS.  THE HAPPY WINNERS WERE ANNOUNCED AT 6:45 PM.

THE ORBEC BOARD OF SERVANTS WISHES TO THANK ALL THE ORBEC VOLUNTEERS WHO COOKED, SERVED, SOLD TICKETS, TOOK TICKETS, HELPED WITH PARKING, AND CLEANED ON THIS FUNDRAISER.  THE DAY WAS LONG, BUT EVERYONE GAVE IT THEIR ALL.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION AND THANKS GOES TO JAMES PRESSLEY FOR HIS INITIATIVE AND HARD WORK IN SECURING THE TALENT AND FOOD FOR THIS DAY.  THANK YOU ALSO GOES OUT TO JANE LANG, ORBEC BOARD FUNDRAISING SERVANT AND THE WEEKEND LAY DIRECTOR OF WALK #16, FOR HER SERVICE AND DIANE BASSETT FOR THE VOLUNTEER WRANGLING.

THIS WAS THE FIRST ANNUAL BLUEGRASS JAMBOREE SPONSORED BY THE OCONEE RIVER BASIN WALK TO EMMAUS COMMUNITY.  NEXT YEAR SHOULD BE EVEN BETTER!  DON’T MISS IT!

The Oconee River Basin Walk to Emmaus Community has a new Reunion Group

The “Women of God” Reunion Group is in the process of establishing mutually agreeable meeting times and dates.  The Group will meet at Freedom Church in Milledgeville, GA.  The contact person for the Group is currently Kathy Martin.  At this time there are five members.  It is such a blessing when ORBEC members come together in new Reunion Groups.  The Emmaus Fourth Day principle is alive and well in the Oconee River Basin Walk to Emmaus Community.                            SC
